The rules of women’s lacrosse differ in many ways from the rules of men’s lacrosse. This means not only are there different ways to play the game, but also that the equipment used needs to be different Men’s lacrosse rules allow more physical contact than in the female version, which is why men’s rules also stipulate that special lacrosse protective equipment has to be worn: shoulder pads, gloves and a lacrosse helmet for example. It’s not only the protective equipment that differs in the two versions of the game, but also the basic playing equipment – the lacrosse shaft, and lacrosse head, that go together to make a complete stick. These two components are available in numerous different versions from various manufacturers. Women’s Lacrosse heads can be easily distinguished from men’s heads, because they use different meshes and pocket depths, meaning that the properties and possibilities for ball control are also completely different. Women’s Lacrosse Heads are a lot narrower than the Men’s versions. This means the ball certainly cannot be played on with such a high acceleration or be played as hard using a women’s head. In addition, the mesh has to be kept relatively flat, and the ball does not sit so tightly in the head, so it is easier to lose the ball to an opponent. Overall, the women’s lacrosse game is less aggressive and there is hardly any physical contact between opposing players.
